Quality Control Board calls 2010 an Excellent vintage
After reviewing nearly one thousand wines from Navarra’s quality (D.O.) producers, the control body of the Institute of Food Quality in Navarra has called 2010 an EXCELLENT vintage. The last vintage to get an EXCELLENT rating was the 2005.
Harvest began in August with the picking of Chardonnay and by the third week of September, most subregions in Navarra were well into harvest. Only the lower mountain region, Tierra Estella and Valdizarbe held out until October for full harvest. It was considered a late harvest for Navarra, and there was late budbreak as well last year.
There was plenty of rain in the winter months, and almost a total absence of rain in summer.
All varieties did well in 2010. Ninety-two percent of the harvest was red grapes and the remaining 8% was white. The whites and Rosado from 2010 are now on the market, their excellent quality making them very drinkable now.
Of the total 2010 production, 64% of the wines are red, 28% Rosado and 8% white (dry and sweet).
Cheers for an EXCELLENT vintage in Navarra!
