Navarra Wines

You don’t have to take classes to enjoy wine!  Just sipping on it is plenty enough for some folks.  But others get curious, and when the “wine bug” hits you and you want to know more, it is good to know there are places that come to the rescue.  In Navarra, too.  Here is what is going on in the Navarra D.O. for people who want to become wine smarties:

One thousand folks have already participated in special wine classes in Navarra, Spain.  The Navarra Wine School is now open for new sessions!  From novices to the wine knowledgeable,
there is something for everyone:

Introduction to Knowledge of Wine:
Tuesday,January 10 to February 14.

Tasting with Knowledge classes:
How white wines evolve over time. February 21

We always wonder if white wines age well, or better with barrel aging, or … To resolve doubts, wine tastings will be
conducted of different brands, different oak aging, different vintages, and the class will draw their own conclusions.

Red versus red Garnacha Tempranillo. February 28.
Each grape variety has its particular expression in terms of its terroir, the
way the winery produces it, the conditions of the vintage, and so on. But the
comparison will allow us to place in context the variety—nuances, common
features and differences. Tasted will be a selection of red wines from Garnacha
and Tempranillo.

Comparing vintages: 2005 versus 2008. March 6th.
These are two very different vintages and harvests: 2005 and 2008 was typically
warm and cold can be cataloged. The results mark a lot of climatic influence
both the characteristics of the grapes harvested and in the profile of the
wines produced.

Young red wine carbonic maceration versus traditional production. March 13.
The two most common methods to produce red wines have their supporters and
detractors. Out of fashion is carbonic maceration.  This class briefly reviews the techniques of
each system and tests wine characteristics.

The new pink 2011 has arrived. March 20.
A good time to try our new pink and think of spring: fresh from the cellars and
ready to captivate wine lovers. Surely the new pink will surprise–full of
freshness, joy and seductive aromas.

Advanced tasting techniques. March 27.
For those who have already jumped into the wine tasting pool and want to
further advance and experiment with advanced techiniques. The tastings will
take a look at major wine flavors and sensations, their interactions, the
balances. Working with solutions of different compounds and even some flaws.
Test your palate!

Food and Wine Pairing. Level: with knowledge.
Meat and cheese tasting   January 13 and February 24.
Pairing wine and chocolate. January 27 and March 9.
Cocktails with wine. February 10 and March 23.
